FACILITATED EARLY DISCHARGE

For patients that are already in hospital, where it is clinically safe and viable to do so, we would encourage consultants to discharge patients slightly earlier than originally anticipated. This enables the ward to free up bed space earlier than usual, releasing valuable capacity.
Not all patients will be appropriate for a facilitated early discharge but for those that are in a position to be able to continue their recovery at home, or at their place of residence, there are positive benefits in doing so, including limiting the risk of infection and a more efficient recovery period within familiar, comfortable surroundings.
